Wallpaper - Birches in Winter Blue Gray

Created by Julia Purinton, our Birches in Winter Blue Gray wallpaper captures the quiet atmosphere of a birch grove veiled in winter mist. Slender tree trunks rise vertically in soft, painterly layers, blending gentle blue-gray tones with pastel gray, off-white, and subtle earthy accents. The impressionistic, oil paint-inspired character creates a sense of depth without harsh contrasts, lending the design an airy, tranquil mood. Produced as made-to-measure mural wallpapers on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, this design brings an understated artistic presence to any interior wall.

In the room

We see this design working beautifully on a main wall in a living room, where the tall vertical trunks help draw the eye upward and create an open, peaceful backdrop. The soft tonal transitions make it easy to live with across larger spaces, as the painterly forest recedes gently into the background rather than dominating the space. It is equally suited to a quiet reading corner or a dedicated meditation space, where the muted palette and forest scenery support an uncluttered, serene atmosphere. Because the composition has an atmospheric, misty quality, it works well on uninterrupted walls where the subtle layers of the woodland scene can be appreciated in full.

Styling it

The cool, painterly quality of this design pairs naturally with Scandinavian and modern minimalist interiors. We suggest keeping surrounding furniture low and grounded to let the vertical movement of the birch trunks remain visible. Natural materials such as pale ash, bleached oak, or painted white wood complement the muted gray tones without competing for attention. To balance the cool blue-gray undertones, incorporate soft textiles like wool throws, brushed cotton, or linen in oatmeal, cream, or light taupe, which introduce warmth and visual texture without disrupting the quiet character of the room.

Colour combinations

The palette within our wallpaper revolves around cool pastel gray, silvery blue-gray, soft white, and faint hints of muted brown along the tree bark. For adjacent painted surfaces and woodwork, we recommend gentle off-whites with a neutral or slightly cool undertone, such as chalky white or pale mineral gray. If you prefer deeper contrast in surrounding elements, muted slate, deep charcoal, or soft navy on upholstered pieces or accent woodwork can frame the wall murals effectively while echoing the darker shadows in the birch trunks.
